R.O.M.E. @ Villa Gordiani

R.O.M.E. @ Villa Gordiani

Time has reshaped the Sala Ottagonale, the building in the space of Villa Gordiani. This particular edifice has been reformed after years to turn into a more abstract triangular volume, with several parts of it missing, proving its historical existence. Through a more playful and light point of view, it looks like a three dimensional puzzle with some missing parts. This led to the concept of the Urban Puzzle.

In the Urban Puzzle there is a collection of several square animated fragments projected on the building’s surface. Those original animations have been shaped to fit the building and divide its body into several puzzle parts, that the bystander can remove and reconnect. The visitors can approach a black box, where they can find small dowels which represent each piece of the animated puzzle on the building. Special sounds fill the space by moving each dowel to complete the experience.

The project attempts a closer bond between seriousness of Fine Art and the more lighted concept of entertaining design. The theme of the animated dowels have been inspired by the Pop art movement in an attempt to turn this project in a more colorful and playful one. There seems to be a strong connection between public art and Pop(ular) art.

The project invites the spectator to actively participate with her own creative intervention.
